MMT Chats: Virtual R&D and Teaching Plastic Injection Mold Design
New Editorial Advisory Board member Davide Masato, an Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, joined me for a 20-minute video chat about the importance of plastics engineering, and how COVID-19 changed the faculty's approach to teaching mold engineering and plastics research.
MMT Chats: Virtual R&D and Teaching Plastic Injection Mold Design
Davide Masato was born and educated in Italy, but his passion for mechanical engineering and plastic injection moldmaking and molding landed him at the University of Massachusetts Lowell where is teaching our future generation of plastics engineers and mold designers. This assistant professor in plastics engineering also continues to conduct plastics research, specifically in mold surface treatments for injection molds.
Davide is also one of MMT’s newest editorial advisory board members, who I introduced back in February 2020, and he also serves alongside me on the Society of Plastics Engineers Mold Technologies Division board.
With all that being said, the main reason I wanted to chat with Davide, was to extra coverage to the approach the instructors took with their mold engineering and CAE courses once the virus hit the U.S.
On top of that, as a teacher he has a unique perspective on what next-generation manufacturers bring to the table—men and women who will be entering plastics or mold building—and what they are looking for in an employer.
