Turnpwr, a control system from Heidenhain’s Acu-Rite brand, is designed for two-axis lathe machining where manual and automated operation are needed. The system is said to maximize throughput by reducing setup time, scrap and other non-productive operations by incorporating an easy-to-use conversational programming language.
Turnpwr includes both Acu-Rite conversational programming format, as well as G-code (ISO) programming. Basic editing of G-code programs is also possible.
The system boasts a 12.1-in. high-resolution display. Preview graphics in the editor illustrate individual machining steps for programming the contour as well as the corresponding toolpath generated using dimensions pulled from a production drawing. Turnpwr also accepts DXF files.
Turnpwr is a closed-loop system with positioning feedback provided by rotary encoders inside the motor assemblies. When fitted with an optional Acu-Rite precision glass scales (1 µm/0.00005-in. resolution), the system also includes Position-Trac, a feature that enables the user to easily, quickly and accurately re-establish work piece zero after shutting down or power loss.
When evaluating new processes for mold manufacture, jig grinding is worth a second look as machine manufacturers have now added high accuracy features to guarantee repeatable results.
Mold performance and durability depends on mold base quality, and hole making is a crucial step in the process.
