Jeanette Rattle, Director of Marketing & Communications, Edison Freire, Director of Gateway Initiatives and Stephanie Cocchi, EdD, Program Manager and Chief Apprentice Advisor for the JEVS Tri-State Apprenticeship Program (JTAP) join me to chat about the benefits of taking a holistic approach to your apprenticeship program.

They explain how apprenticeships are just an intentional way of onboarding to build qualified employees and grow employers. They share their “agency” approach that includes the apprentice, mentor, employer and coach to build customized professional development plans.

These plans involve mentors to guide the training, which not only includes required coursework but wraparound services (including digital literacy skills, as well as personal and financial support services) that help to remove any barriers that prevent apprentices from being successful in the program.

JTAP is here to help employers tap into a diverse talent pool, rigorously train and fully vet and support a diverse workforce.

  • JEVS is a non-profit with a vision to ‘connect’ by intentionally trying to build a more diverse workforce.
  • JEVS is advancing best practices in workforce development in the Greater Philadelphia region, including the Registered Apprenticeship model.
  • JEVS Human Services operates the Tri-State Apprenticeship Program (now in its 6th year) to provide regional manufacturers with a turn-key solution for designing and administering a structured apprenticeship program for their employees.
  • In partnership with Tooling U-SME, we also deliver the related technical instruction through online classes that allow apprentices to complete their coursework at their own pace from anywhere.
  • We provide success coaching for the apprentice and mentor by developing an Apprentice Career Plan, train the mentor who often has not had formal training experience and train the apprentice and mentor on the use of the Learning Management System which tracks progress in Related Technical Instruction and On-the-Job Learning
  • In our region, there is no intermediary providing this service for small to mid-sized manufacturers.
  • Participants have successfully been able to advance in their occupations due to wage increases as part of the apprenticeship requirement.
