Suiting Up Our Future Moldmakers

Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) is a school we've covered before for its outstanding programming in tool & die and its commitment to the industry overall. Today my friend over there, Bob Novak shared some pictures to show me where a couple of our MoldMaking Technology Top 10 t-shirts showed up--with WCTC tool and die students of the year Jack Andrew and Max Bayer.

WCTC first-year Tool and Die students Max Bayer of Town of Raymond and Jack Andrew of Menomonee Falls were selected by their instructors to receive a toolbox supplied by MSC Industrial Supply Co. and the National Tool and Machining Association. Bayer and Andrew were identified by their instructors as outstanding students who work hard, help their peers and exhibit leadership skills.

At WCTC Tool & Die Maker Apprenticeship is 5-year, 16-credit apprenticeship (2 years of related instruction). A tool and die maker operates various machine tools to make and repair plastic molds, special machinery, tools, dies, jigs, fixtures and die cast dies. Tool and die makers usually specialize in one or two of those areas. In related Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship instruction, students will learn basic theory in machining, blueprint reading, and metallurgy in addition to advanced theory in stamping, blanking, jigs and fixtures, plastics and die casting. Computer-assisted machining and die design are also covered.
