Finishing Inserts Feature PVD Coating for Increased Output and Extended Tool Life
Walter USA’s Tiger·tec Gold finishing grade WPM15G is available for finishing inserts for Xtra·tec XT, Walter BLAXX and M4000, providing increased output and increased tool life.
Walter USA’s Tiger·tec Gold finishing grade WPM15G features physical vapor deposition (PVD) coatings, which are optimized for finish milling. The WPM15G is an upgrade from the existing WXM15 grade to provide increased output and extended tool life. The grade features over 20 new finishing inserts and is available for all finishing inserts for Walter Xtra·tec XT, Walter BLAXX and M4000 milling cutters and more.
The WPM15G grade inserts work well for finish milling steel, stainless steel and cast iron (ISO P, M and K material groups). The inserts are well suited for general mechanical engineering, moldmaking, die making, aerospace, energy and automotive industries.
The insert’s fine-grained carbide substrate is coated with an aluminum titanium nitride (AlTiN) functional layer for the best layer bonding topped with a gold-colored zirconium nitride (ZrN) top layer. Users are able to quickly detect insert wear as the gold layer is eventually removed during use to reveal the charcoal black-colored functional layer.
Walter says it optimized the layer thickness to provide the best performance on its wiper inserts. The grade is designed to offer a perfect balance between toughness and wear resistance. According to the company, extensive testing has shown a significant improvement in surface finish as well as overall tool life, both of which are major requirements of wiper-style finishing inserts.
Walter offers a wide range of precision tools for milling, turning, drilling and threading applications.
