For this special MMT Chat I got the MMT team together to talk about the Plastics Technology Expo, or more specifically, the Moldmaking Pavilion at PTXPO 2022, which was the debut of Gardner Business Media’s Midwest plastics event that took place March 29-31 in Rosemont, Illinois.

MMT Managing Editor Grace Nehls, Marketing Manager Dan Sweatt and Digital Editor Cara Decknadel help me provide a quick rundown of our impressions and what those who were unable to attend the event missed.

Q&A

For those of you who attended Amerimold, how is PTXPO different?

  • It is more comprehensive with molding machines, running molds and producing product while demonstrating the latest processing and tooling innovation.
  • Larger footprint.
  • Quality of attendees.

How do you measure the success of this event?

  • Energy level of conversation and connections.
  • Exhibitors remarking on quality of leads.

What was the most interesting technology/process you learned about?

  • With training and education remaining such a huge issue, I have to say the Oculus VR Headsets to promote Kruse Analysis’ new VR training tool that let me explore a fully functional molding shop floor.
  • Engel’s quick-change mold demo.
  • Remote software used to manage machines.

Share a valuable connection you made during this event.

  • I made a number, including meeting several LinkedIn connections (like Steve Michon of Zero Tolerance and Richard Evans of Reaction Plastics Solutions) in person, a newly announced female president of a mold component supplier (Angela Elsey) and Jack Krikorian the director of curriculum at TMA, just to name a few.

What feature of PTXPO is the most memorable to you?

  • Mouldmaker card game.
  • MMT Studio.
  • Demos.
  • Tech talks.
  • PTXPOasis.

What was the best exhibitor giveaway?

  • Tumblers.
  • 3D-printed bottle openers.
  • Recycled backpacks.
  • Koozies with bottle openers on them.

Thank you team, and more importantly, a big thank you to all those out there who supported the event—our sponsors, exhibitors, speakers and attendees.
