The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Foundation is collaborating with the Plastics Hall of Fame to launch the Plastics Hall of Fame Scholarship, a new scholarship designed to support students pursuing careers in the plastics industry. Four outstanding students will each receive $5,000 in recognition of their academic excellence and dedication to the field.

According to Maureen Steinwall, president of the Plastics Hall of Fame, Plastics Hall of Fame members are pioneering researchers, scholars, innovators and leaders whose contributions have transformed the way we live. “As the industry evolves, it is crucial to recognize these trailblazers and inspire the next generation to build upon their legacy,” Steinwall says. “This scholarship is an investment in future talent who will continue to drive innovation and address global challenges related to plastics.”

The SPE Foundation has a tradition of supporting students who are passionate about plastics. In 2024, it awarded more than $262,000 in scholarships to 75 students across 40 universities. Since 2016, the foundation has distributed more than $1.4 million in scholarship funds, helping to cultivate the next wave of professionals in the industry.

“Annual and endowed scholarship funds are vital for building our plastics workforce,” says Eve Vitale, chief executive, SPE Foundation. “The Plastics Hall of Fame celebrates individuals who have shaped our world through their life’s work. We are excited to offer these scholarships to students who are committed to advancing the field and making a meaningful impact with the hope that one day they may be worthy of the distinction as a Plastics Hall of Fame member. “By investing in young talent, we are ensuring a future where bold ideas, emerging technologies and creative problem-solving continue to propel the industry forward.”

The Plastics Hall of Fame Scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate, technical or graduate students pursuing coursework that supports a career in plastics or polymers. Eligible fields of study include business, environmental studies, history, political science, moldmaking and plastic technology. Applicants must maintain strong academic standing, demonstrate a commitment to solving current and future challenges in plastics, and uphold the mission and vision of the Plastics Hall of Fame.

The SPE Foundation scholarship application period for the 2025-2026 academic year is open until April 1. Students interested in the Plastics Hall of Fame Scholarship and other scholarship opportunities can learn more at www.4spe.org/scholarships

The SPE Foundation is the philanthropic arm of SPE, a global professional association dedicated to advancing plastics and polymer technology. The SPE Foundation supports educational initiatives that promote plastics education and equitable career opportunities, empowering students and educators worldwide. Through programs like the PlastiVan, the SPE Foundation aims to inspire the next generation of plastics professionals and foster sustainable solutions for the future.

The Plastics Hall of Fame honors the people whose innovative leadership and scholarship created efficient solutions to answer societal needs using plastics.
