Straight-Edge Insert Design Addresses Chip Control, Consistency
Kennametal expands the application range of the Stellram 7792VX portfolio to meet a broader range of needs for mold and die.
Kennametal Inc. has expanded the Stellram 7792VX portfolio application range with additional indexable milling inserts. The new 7792VX insert design covers face milling, pocket milling, helical milling, plunge milling, pocketing, ramping and counterboring — many of these applications useful for building molds — in addition to providing improved tool life in steels, stainless steels and high-temperature alloys.
“The Stellram 7792VX portfolio is recognized by our customers for high-performance cuts,” notes Scott Etling, vice president of global product management. “Expanding the lineup to meet a broader range of needs for aerospace, mold and die and general engineering shops, the 7792VX straight-edge inserts respond to machining concerns we’ve heard about chip control and consistency in the shop.”
All new 7792VX inserts fit existing pockets:
- IC 06, 09, 12, 16 inserts with straight cutting edge for consistent chip thickness for all depth-of-cut applications.
- Flat Top Geometry (-M) with a strong cutting edge for long tool life.
- Positive Rake Face (-M41) with chip control for optimal chip clearance.
The inserts feature a straight-edge design that better maintains chip thickness and improves performance in lighter depth-of-cut applications than curved designs, according to Kennametal.
