Reshoring: Is It Really Happening?

Help bring more moldmaking back to the U.S.!

Share

As part of the amerimold expo this year, we will be featuring a special lunchtime keynote presentation on How to Bring Back Manufacturing. Moderated by Harry Moser— a 40-year manufacturing industry veteran and retired President of GF AgieCharmilles, and founder of the Reshoring Initiative created to help move lost jobs back to the U.S. (www.reshorenow.org)—
this presentation will provide  an update on the Initiative, including its Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Estimator, real-world success stories/case studies, government initiatives and relevant industry data to get you armed and ready.

In addition to this keynote panel discussion, MoldMaking Technology magazine is seeking three or four moldmakers—owners or sales managers—who have experience competing offshore, as well as one customer engineer or buyer. The goal is to establish a group who can sit down during amerimold (prior to or following the panel) to adapt the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Estimator specifically for molds.

We believe this would be a two-hour commitment. This TCO Estimator for our industry will be a free online tool to help moldmakers—both large and small—easily uncover any hidden costs of offshoring. If you need more information to decide or you want to sign up now, please contact me at cfuges@gardnerweb.com or call me at (800) 579-8809.

For those unfamiliar with the Total Cost of Ownership Estimator, Harry explains it as “a complimentary tool that enables aggregation of all cost and risk factors into one cost for simpler, more objective decision making. Most companies make sourcing decisions based on price alone, resulting in a 20 to 30 percent miscalculation of actual offshoring costs. With the TCO Estimator, users account for all relevant factors when determining their total cost of ownership including overhead, balance sheet, corporate strategy and other external and internal business costs.”
Our hope is to create a targeted TCO Estimator for moldmakers, bringing more attention to the benefits of reshoring. When completed, it will be available at www.reshorenow.com, where you can also read about the Reshoring Initiative as well as further details on the current online TCO Estimator.

And finally, any moldmakers who have reshored and/or taken orders from customers who had been buying molds offshore and are interested in sharing their reshoring successes, are encouraged to contact me (CFuges@gardnerweb.com).
