Aimed at medical and small automotive parts manufacturers, the FZ12KS Tilt VMC from CHIRON America (Charlotte, NC) incorporates a swivel head spindle for single setup machining of complex parts. It has a swiveling range of -10° to +115°, and it only takes 0.5 second to swivel from 0° to 90°. This VMC—coupled with the optional bar feeder—offers maximum versatility. Ideal applications for the VMC include orthopedic devices (such as larger implants), bone plates, hip sockets and surgical instruments made of special plastics, titanium and steel. Automotive applications include turbo charger impellers and aluminum housings. With the NC swivel head, users can produce milled surfaces and holes at every angular position, including outer/inner contours, and tapping. An NC linear unit also is included with an NC vertical turning device, thus making it possible to machine complex workpieces requiring six-sided machining, all in a single setup. Sized larger than the company’s FZ08 model in the same series, the X, Y, Z-axis travel range on the FZ12 is 21" x 12.5" x 14" (550 mm x 320 mm x 360 mm).
