Insert grade CBN050C (patent pending) from Seco Tools Inc. (Warren, MI) offers a new low CBN-content substrate in combination with a PVD coating that allows for machining in the range of 650 to 825 sfm. The inserts are available in solid, full-face and brazed multi-corner and single tip shapes to suit all hard finish machining techniques. Cutting edges on round inserts—either solid or full-faced—are clearly marked and each cutting edge on solid and multi-corner formats is visibly identified. These cutting tools are coated with a unique (Ti, Si) N coating compared to traditional (Ti, Al) N alloy coatings, giving the inserts significantly increased tool life. In addition to the superior performance of the (Ti, Si) N coating, the color of the coating provides visual indication of worn edges to the tool operator. Together, these qualities will increase the user’s reliability and confidence in the cutting tool’s performance.
