Over the past year, Industrial Molds has invested more than $2 million in equipment purchases and facility improvements to meet demands for increased quality and faster turnaround. A new Mikron HSM 300 ULP five-axis electrode cutting machine now is up and running, doubling the company’s electrode production. The newest carbon cutting machine is connected to a robot that operates with a second carbon cutting machine in a manufacturing cell with a silo that holds 220 electrodes and can run lights-out for long periods of time.

A new OKK HM 1000s horizontal mill also has been installed and is running, featuring a 60-tool changer and higher rpms that will enable the shop to run jobs back-to-back and increase lights-out operations. The company is also updating its wire EDM equipment in order to automate threading and add light-out capabilities. Two Makino U6 heat wire EDMs also have been installed which run faster and use less wire that previous machines. In addition, a new free-standing 2-ton crane system has been installed to improve efficiencies in the small-mold assembly area.
