A variety of machines will be highlighted at Westec by Mori Seiki (Irving, TX). The new NZ-S1500 2-turret shaft lathe is making its North American debut at this year’s show. Created specifically to machine shafts, the footprint of the NZ-S1500 is less than half the previous models and measures just under 5 feet in height. The NZ-S1500 can accommodate workpieces with a maximum machining diameter of ?120 mm and a standard machining diameter of ?60?20 mm. A high-speed loader with a rotary hand function increases the efficiency of the machine. To increase productivity, the NZ-S1500 employs a symmetrical design in which the two turrets are aligned with the spindle, which is mounted on the vertical bed. This layout also serves to reduce the influence of heat and improve accuracy during continuous machining. The NT4250 DCG™/1500SZ also will be on display, featuring a sub-spindle and second turret, which allow for simultaneous machining on two sides and an optimal balance of processes. To make the NT4250 DCG/1500SZ as efficient and productive as possible, special attention has been paid to machine speed. Maximum spindle speed is 4,000 rpm with a maximum tool spindle speed of 12,000 rpm. Additionally, the machine’s ATC (Automatic Tool Changer) features a tool-to-tool change time of just 1 second. This model features a tool magazine that stores a standard number of 20 tools, in addition to a 40-tool and 60-tool option, for a total of up to 100 tools. Additionally, Mori Seiki will showcase its NH4000 DCG™ featuring a 6-pallet CPP (Carrier Pallet Pool) system. The powerful NH4000 DCG employs technologies never before combined, giving the customer the best in dynamic characteristics and surface quality.
