The FBB-110/130 series horizontal boring and milling machines from Chevalier Machinery feature an extra-rigid design for increased structural stability. The one-piece Meehanite cast iron machine base includes four guideways on the Z axis for full table support with no overhang issues. It also offers large, heavy-duty box ways on the X, Y and Z axes, and is coated with anti-friction material for consistent accuracy and smooth movement. C3-grade ballscrews are used on all axes for high-precision positioning.

The machine’s table measures 63" × 55.1" and supports loads as heavy as 22,000 lbs. XYZ travel is 78.7" × 78.7" × 59", and W travel is 19.7" on the FBB-110 model and 27.5" on the FBB-130. The table also features full C-axis contouring with 0.001-degree minimum intervals and offers a hydraulic break disk plus a locking pin every 90 degrees for maximum stability. The rotary table is driven by an AC servo motor with a worm shaft and gear that provides high torque for heavy workpieces. An optional magazine-type ATC accepts tools as heavy as 55 lbs, and a chain-type, 40/60/80-tool magazine also is available.

The 35-hp, 50-taper, large-diameter, cartridge-type, air-purged spindle runs with a ZF gearbox that generates a maximum of 1,220 foot-pounds at 600 rpm to overcome most tough-material cutting conditions. A spiral-type spindle cooling system provides constant, all-around lubrication, preventing thermal deformation and prolonging the life of the spindle, bearings and gears. The spindle can be extended in the W axis for deep-hole boring with high rigidity and machining accuracy.

Standard equipment on the machines also includes a spindle oil cooler that controls the various temperature changes in the spindle during machining, a lubrication system, a lift-up chip conveyor and two internal chip augers. A FANUC 0i-MD control offers Ethernet connection; an easy-access, front memory card slot; and very large data-server memory capacity.
