Arthur Stoll of Armin Tool & Manufacturing Co., a leading manufacturer of high volume, multi-cavity molds for plastic, was named Mold Designer of the Year 2010 by the Society of Plastics Engineers Mold Making & Mold Design Division.

Stoll, who founded Armin in 1952, helped to set the industry’s bar for quality mold making, bringing his flair for ingenuity and problem-solving into every project, and nurturing the talents of those who worked at Armin through the years.

Wayne Hertlein, who is Chairman of the SPE Division and a former Armin apprentice and is himself a Mold Designer of the Year honoree (2004), presented the award to Art Stoll and had this to say: “It was both and honor and a privilege to present Art with the 2010 Mold Designer of the year award. I was privileged to serve my apprenticeship at Armin Tool and have Art Stoll as a mentor. I feel that the training I received gave me a solid foundation for learning the craft of mold making and mold design.

“The apprenticeship at Armin was an intense five year program that was based on the German tooling apprenticeship programs and the apprenticeship program at Western Electric where Art served his own apprenticeship,” Hertlein added. “Art always told me ‘Right, wrong or indifferent, always make a decision. The way you become successful is to make more right decisions than wrong decisions. Always do your homework and if you make a wrong decision, learn from it and this will keep you humble.’ I was very pleased to hear that Art had received this prestigious award. I was long overdue. What I am today is directly related to the training that I received from Art Stoll.”

Trevor Pruden, who is immediate past chairman of the SPE Division, said, “Since opening the doors of Armin Tool & Manufacturing Company in 1952, Arthur Stoll has nurtured and developed the skills of mold designers and mold makers through his company’s apprenticeship programs.  Several of those apprentices became candidates for Mold Maker of the Year, and one candidate achieved that honor.  The molds designed and produced by Armin Tool & Manufacturing Co. are found in use today around the world.  The SPE Mold Making & Mold Design Division is pleased to acknowledge and recognize Arthur Stoll’s continued dedication to the industry in furthering the craft of Mold Design.”

Art Stoll is retired, but his son, Paul, now leads the company’s mold making operations as well as Armin Molding Corporation, which was founded in 1974. Paul took time to reflect on his father’s life and career: “My father took a great deal of pleasure in receiving this award. He was able to enjoy the presence of both current and former employees on that day, and that’s a testament to my father’s commitment to the trade because he worked hard to ensure that so many people were able to hone their craft and be successful in the industry.”

The SPE Mold Designer of the Year Award is sponsored by Progressive Components and brings with it a plaque and monetary award.
