Micro Mold Co., Inc. and Plastikos Inc., an Erie, Pa.-based custom injection molder and the 2010 Plastics News Processor of the Year, will be a silver-level sponsor of the 2011 Plastics in Medical Devices Conference, April 11-13 in Huron, Ohio. The conference, the only medical devices event focused exclusively on plastic components, will provide an interactive forum for leading pharmaceutical companies and device designers to lay out their requirements for plastics in the medical sector.

“Medical devices represent an exciting and challenging market for the plastics industry,” said Philip Katen, President and General Manager of Plastikos. “Now more than ever, OEMs are counting on processors for strong material partnerships, industry know-how and a fierce dedication to solving complex problems.”

The first-ever Plastics in Medical Devices Conference, held in April 2010, drew more than 275 participants from around the world. The success of that show prompted a sequel, which will include 40 presenters and bring members of the entire medical-devices supply chain together for two days of information sharing and networking.

In addition to its sponsorship, Plastikos will also be exhibiting at the event to offer attendees an inside look at its capabilities, technologies and areas of expertise.

Plastikos maintains a high commitment to the medical plastics industry and recently completed a medical-focused facilities expansion in cooperation with its sister company, Micro Mold. Together, the companies offer the latest equipment and technology to meet the unique purification needs of the industry.

·         Class 10,000 (ISO 7) cleanroom with packaging, labeling and assembly

·         88-ton Arburg Allrounder with clean air module

·         Enclosed conveyor to transport parts without contamination

·         Value-added cleanroom operations including inspection, packaging, labeling and assembly

“Customers have expressed increased interest in and demand for cleanroom production capabilities,” said Katen. “Recently, we’ve added a number of medical OEMs to our customer base, and this expansion enables us to offer more new products and services to the industry.”

Many of Plastikos’ medical customers also benefit from the medical mold building expertise of its sister company, Micro Mold. Micro Mold has over 25 years of experience in the medical device industry, making molds for small, tight-tolerance components.
