Kern Announces Michigan Sales, Service Partner

Kern Precision, Inc. announces its new partnership with Merrifield Machinery Solutions, a full-service CNC machine tool supplier with locations in Pontiac and Grand Rapids, Mich.

Kern was founded in 1962, and is located at the foothills of the Alps in Eschenlohe, Germany. A family owned company with 150 employees and distribution in more than 30 countries. Kern manufactures 3- and 5-axis machining centers with repeat accuracy <0.5 µm and <0.3 µm, with spindle run out of < 1 µm.

Toni Mangold, Kern Precision sales director, says “We have been searching for a partner who could come along side of Kern with knowledge of the Michigan market, as well as the ability to provide excellent service to our customers, and we have found that partner with Merrifield.”

Kern provides solutions for precision part manufacturers, mold and die, Research and development, medical, and micro-drilling applications. Kern machines provide precision on the work piece below ±5 µm, (The Kern Pyramid Nano holds tolerances of ± 1 µm), and surface quality up to Ra < 0.05 µm. The company says machine designs are informed by its own experience in producing precision parts. 

In tool and die manufacturing, Kern machines are capable of hard milling inserts and µ-exact electrodes for injection molds, sinter presses, forging tools, MIM – dies (Metal injection molding) and hot embossing tools. Manufacturing of µ-exact electrodes from copper or graphite and work pieces in steel up to HRC 62 can be done in either 3- or simultaneous 5-axis configurations.
