MoldMaking Technology gets answer to how Foboha's toolmaking capabilities (namely its proprietary cube mold technology) will complement Barnes Group’s Molding Solutions technology portfolio.

Barnes Group Inc., an international aerospace and industrial manufacturing and service provider, announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Adval Tech’s molds business (Foboha), focused on the development and manufacture of complex plastic injection molds for packaging, medical, consumer, and automotive applications. Foboha, which is headquartered in Haslach, Germany, operates out of three manufacturing locations in Germany, Switzerland and China.

When MoldMaking Technology (MMT) asked him to explain how Foboha's toolmaking capabilities (namely its proprietary cube mold technology) will complement Barnes Group’s Molding Solutions technology portfolio, Mark Moss, EVP Business Development, answered, "Foboha’s toolmaking capability in cube mold technology adds to the current capability at Männer for high-precision high-volume molding applications by providing higher production rates important for many applications in packaging, medical and personal care. Conversely, Männer hot runner technology will be an enabler for Foboha in providing improved molding performance in high quality applications. Priamus’s cavity sensor-based quality monitoring and process control systems will enhance Foboha's technology in providing molding systems at the highest quality level available in the market."

This acquisition is expected to further expand Barnes Group’s intellecutal property-based manufacturing capability and diversify its injection molding end markets and customers. Moss explained to MMT, "Foboha's moldmaking facility in Suzhou China will be a platform for Männer’s growth in that market while Männer manufacturing facility in Lawrenceville, Georgia will be a growth platform for Foboha in North America. The combined service and test center global infrastructure of Molding Solutions will provide best in class customer service for all the companies within the Barnes Molding Solutions group."

MMT was told that there are no particular projects in the works that FOBOHA may be involved in at this time. "The close of the acquisition is expected to be during the third quarter, so any specific projects cannot be addressed until after that time," said Moss.

Barnes Group has agreed to purchase the Foboha moldmaking business for CHF 133 million (approximately $136 million). The acquisition is subject to the receipt of regulatory approvals and the satisfaction of other closing conditions. Following the closing, Foboha will operate as a business within the Molding Solutions strategic business unit of Barnes Group’s Industrial Segment.

Barnes Group will provide additional details about Adval Tech’s Foboha business after the close of the transaction.
