Bales Metal Surface Solutions, located in Downers Grove, Illinois, remains open to serve customers during the coronavirus pandemic. In the State of Illinois, Governor J.B. Pritzker first issued a shelter-in-place directive on March 20, urging all residents to remain in their homes and requiring all non-essential businesses to temporarily close their physical locations. The order has recently been extended to April 30. While Bales initially planned to comply with the executive order and temporarily cease operations, they were soon inundated with unsolicited notices from customers naming the company as an essential part of their supply chain and requesting that it continue operations.

Bales proprietary coatings, including diamond chrome, hard chrome, electroless nickel, electroless nickel/PTFE, electroless nickel/boron nitride and electroless nickel/Diamond (nano sized) are used in essential industries including medical equipment and supplies, defense, and food production and packaging, among others.

As essential molding businesses look to exponentially increase production of critical items, retool to manufacture items that support pandemic response efforts, and look to minimize costs associated with replacing damaged or worn tooling, the right coating or coating and finish combination can help ensure better performance across the board. Whether reducing downtime, generating fewer rejected parts, or using coated prototype aluminum molds to get up and running more quickly, it is essential that the manufacturers who are working hard to respond to the current crisis have the best possible support in place from mold makers, finishers and supply chain partners.

Bales has committed to prioritize and expedite (at no additional cost) any jobs that are directly related to pandemic response efforts.

The health and safety of Bales employees has always been the top priority, and with heightened concerns about the rapid spread of coronavirus, Bales is complying with CDC guidelines and recommendations to keep all employees safe.

“We are humbled and honored to have heard from so many of our customers, and proud of the work they and we are doing to address these unprecedented challenges,” says Stacey Bales, president. “We plan to remain open as long as it is safe to do so and are grateful to our amazing employees for their commitment to the work we do.”
