AMBA Names Tim Bartz Mold Builder of Year

Bartz, president of Minneapolis, Minnesota-based Mold Craft, accepted the award at the organization's annual conference on May 7.

Tim Bartz, President of Mold Craft, Inc. has been named Mold Builder of the Year by the American Mold Builders Association (AMBA). The award was announced May 7th at the association’s annual convention in Indianapolis.

Bartz has been with Mold Craft 23 years starting out working on the operations side of the mold making business running CNC and other shop floor equipment.  He worked his way through the ranks prior to taking ownership along with his partner, Justin McPhee in September of 2007.  Today, with a great ability to connect with customers, his primary role is in sales and quoting projects.  His company’s continued growth is based in large on his ability to foresee problem areas and acquire the right machines not only to add capacity but redundancy, which has helped to reduce risk for his customers.

He is very involved with education and with raising funds for scholarships.  He currently sits on several technical advisory boards for local technical trade schools and colleges where he provides input as to the direction the courses should be headed, updating the educators on the state of manufacturing and gaining feedback from them on the forecast of the graduating talent pool.  He goes as far as to personally deliver the scholarship applications to 3 or 4 local technical colleges and explains to their classes about a career in moldmaking.  His company has always been open to local schools and over the last 10 years, has completed numerous presentations to high school, middle school and elementary students and teachers.

This deserving award recipient would probably be the first one to tell us that our wounded servicemen returning from combat should be honored and not a moldmaker from Minnesota, but the AMBA decided it is time for our industry to recognize this mold builder that gives of his time to those in education, that gives to his fellow moldmakers and together with his wife Kim, has set up and continues to drive the cause of

The AMBA Mold Builder of the Year Award was instituted to recognize outstanding contributions made by an AMBA member. The recipient of this prestigious award will be an outstanding business leader dedicated to the industry, and an active member of the AMBA. For over 40 years, the American Mold Builders Association has been the only trade organization that dedicates itself to just one industry – mold manufacturing.  AMBA represents nearly 250 mold manufacturers across the US and is represented by 12 chapters.  Member companies range from small, specialty niche organizations to large, full-service firms that are equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and CAD/CAM technology to provide the best in new product and mold design and build.
