Design to First Shot, and Beyond
The description of the moldmaking industry encompasses more than this.
Eighteen years ago, when we launched MoldMaking Technology, we defined a moldmaker as “a toolmaker who is knowledgeable on all aspects of the moldmaking process, from mold design to first shot.” Well, today I believe that the job description extends well beyond that scope. Evidence of this lies in the coverage we provide, our association with and contributions to Additive Manufacturing magazine, our 2016 Leadtime Leader Awards (you will meet the winners next month), and the content of our annual Amerimold expo.
Our editorial approach remains fixed on our tagline—Engineer/Build/Maintain—and we continue to serve the needs of management, engineers and supervisors within OEMs, molders and moldmakers, from front-end mold design to mold repair. But the technologies and strategies that matter in mold manufacturing have improved and increased beyond design and first shot. Our industry now includes 3D printing and molding, topics which will both be presented at Amerimold 2016.
Here is a look at what we have in store for you at next month’s show:
Engineer sessions, sponsored by MMT, will help mold buyers and builders gain insight into proven technologies and strategies for better part/
mold design and development, including tooling material options, additive manufacturing, conformal cooling, CAD/CAM and data management.
Build sessions, sponsored by Makino, will examine the challenges to better mold-building operations and the technology solutions that can help yield higher quality molds and end-use parts, including automation, cutter technology, EDM, hot runners, workholding and five-axis machining.
Maintain sessions, sponsored by MMT, will cover the skills and systems necessary to overcome mold repair issues, including a review of coatings options, welding techniques and maintenance strategies.
New Mold sessions, sponsored by Plastics Technology, will reveal the impact of part design on final part shape, and how to integrate molds, machines and automation to create an effective production system to yield successful collaborative manufacturing.
We invite you to join the MMT team as we present the 18th annual Amerimold expo in Novi, Michigan, June 15-16, and connect the people, products and processes that make molds. The Exhibit Hall will house top technology providers (see page 54 for Part 1 of our technology highlights).
Lastly, don’t forget our annual networking party, the unveiling of our 2016 “Top 10 Reasons to Be a Moldmaker” T-shirts, and the awards ceremony for this year’s Leadtime Leader winners, sponsored by Progressive Components. Visit amerimoldexpo.com for full event details and to register today!
