For his dedication to the moldmaking industry and for being a great leader and role model, Steve Johnson (Operations Manager for ToolingDocs, a provider of maintenance training products and services) was selected and recognized as the 2014 Mold Designer of the Year for the Mold Making and Mold Design Division of SPE at amerimold 2014.

Each year the board of directors of this Division selects from its membership, and from nominations at large, that one individual who has shown through years of service to the industry an ability to grasp information, adapt to changing technology and provide career and technical guidance to others. Steve is a worthy, and gracious, recipient.

"I was honored that Glenn Beall nominated me. He is an industry icon and for him to think I was deserving of this recognition is quite humbling, to say the least. There are so many great mold designers creating incredible molds that merit the best of care, not only for the company's prosperity but because the molds themselves are mechanical works of art worthy of the respect and care of skilled craftsmen. Working on, writing about and creating courses that help raise these skills and the level of awareness among repair technicians is my passion. I am very fortunate to do something that I love."

Along with this award an honorarium in the amount of $500.00--made possible through a generous donation from Progressive Components Inc.--was donated to the Madison Adult Career Center in Mansfield, OH, which has partnered with ToolingDocs for a few years and sends students to ToolingDocs for career training in mold maintenance.

On a personal note, Steve and I have known each other for years through his work on MMT's Across the Bench series as well as speaking at amerimold. I consider him an industry friend and extend my sincere congratulations!
