Highlights from the latest dinner meeting of the Chicago Chapter of the American Mold Builders Association (AMBA).

Goeff Luther, president of A-1 Tool Corp., brought his baby back to the AMBA Chicago Unique Vehicle event, and with the custom paint job it has, this 1950 Mercury Hudson Hornet is definitely unique! Some may remember my 2017 blog (Fun Friday: Moldmakers and Their Toys) where I note that this car is autographed by two famous custom-car designers. Do you recall who they were?
A great networking session for moldmakers and mold industry suppliers who love their unique and classic cars.
A gathering of AMBA members and, what is this? Chicago Chapter Chair Chuck Klingler chatting with Walter Schaub of Pro Mold & Die and sporting a “classic” 2017 MMT Top 10 Reasons to Be A Moldmaker t-shirt! There are those who proudly collect them, so why not wear it during the Unique Vehicle show?
Classic BBQ fare was enjoyed by all who braved the weather to make a success of this year’s Unique Vehicle Show and BBQ for the Chicago AMBA dinner meeting. Always a great time.
AMBA Chicago Chapter Chair Chuck Klingler makes some announcements during the dinner meeting, including that scholarship funds from the chapter’s Tools for Schools program are still available to Chicago-area schools with trade related courses.

Despite a stormy start to the day, the clouds cleared enough to enable the Chicago Chapter of the American Mold Builders Association (AMBA) to hold its annual Unique Car Show and BBQ dinner meeting at Medinah Banquets in Addison, IL.
Several “gear-head” moldmaker members participated by bringing a prized classic car, customized and late model vehicles to enjoy a cocktail hour sponsored by Boride Engineered Abrasives and share their common love of an all-American pastime – cool cars.

Education Committee Update
The car show was followed by a classic BBQ dinner and a chapter meeting led by AMBA Chicago Chair Chuck Klingler of Janler Corp., who gave an update on the Education Committee’s activities.
Klingler let everyone know that Chicago members were welcome to participate in the second strategic planning session of the Education Committee to be held on Friday, August 16, from 8 a.m. to noon at TopSolid/Missler Software in Lombard, Illinois. At that meeting, the committee will work to prioritize goals set at its first session in March. The goals are as follows:
- Marketing of mold manufacturing careers
- Education Committee Issues, such as 501(c)6, development of one-year, 2-10 year plan
- Education: Apprentice career path, community engagement, working with the Technology & Manufacturing Association (TMA) to develop a customized training program for moldmaking, and more.
Klingler also announced that, so far, the Education Committee has awarded more than $12,000 in Tools for Schools grant funds, and there are still funds available in 2019 if anyone knows of a Chicago area program that can use some financial assistance. Applications are available at MoldYourCareer.org. In association with grant awards, members are needed to visit schools that benefit by the Tools for Schools program and make a short presentation about moldmaking as a viable career option using AMBA chapter-supplied videos and a PowerPoint presentation.
