MoldMaking Technology Editorial Director Christina Fuges sits down virtually with co-host Ryan Delahanty, publisher of MMT, and guests in the moldmaking industry to discuss hot topics, trends and challenges in the hope of leaving a few tips and strategies. Our guest in this session is Don Dumoulin, CEO/owner of Precise Tooling Solutions (Columbus, Indiana), the 2020 winner of MMT’s Leadtime Leader Award. We also hear from Josh Jeffries, director of manufacturing; Brian Rose, tool productivity program manager; and John Rowe, program manager and marketing executive at Precise Tooling Solutions.

Each year, the prestigious MoldMaking Technology Leadtime Leader Award is given to North American mold builders that excel in their craft. Find out what winning the Leadtime Leader Award meant to Precise Tooling Solutions and the benefits of taking that title home in a pandemic year.

“We define [a Leadtime Leader] as a company that performs beyond the status quo, using any and all resources available to it, whether that means teamwork between skilled employees and a well managed scheduling system, or having the latest machinery and equipment and automation etc, or both. But, the important thing to remember is that it's not just about being the shop with the shortest delivery times. It’s about what you do with what you have. That's really important,” says Ryan Delahanty.

Some highlights to tune into when watching this session:

  • “We stay focused on really three things, world class craftsmanship, on time delivery, and a fair price. And we do that with every project and with every customer day in and day out,” says Don Dumoulin, Precise Tooling Solutions.
  • “We've taken processes and given them to experts. So we’ve lowered the amount of time that we have in tools. But what we've also done is built expertise across the shop in very different areas. That is … helping our efficiency grow.”
  • “The very nature of marketing has changed. Marketing historically has been very interruptive, where commercials and cold calls and information is being bombarded at people. Inbound marketing takes that concept and turns it on its head,” says Brian Rose.
  • “I think that human beings like to be recognized, right? You know, recognition is one of the things we do around my shop. People want to know that others value them as individuals and as companies and to earn a national award is just a real thrill. It’s powerful for me as an individual, as a business owner, and it’s powerful for my people.”

Taken from the 2020 MMT IMTS Spark video series “What’s New and What Works in Mold Manufacturing,” this video session is number four of six sessions presented by Mobikin Technology on the IMTS Spark platform.
