How often have you purchased a new product, such as a cell phone, and never completely explored all the possible ways you can use it? I have done it many times… I just want it to do what I need it to do – make phone calls, text, take photos and the occasional video, plus give me access to email. I have no idea what some of the apps are and I have yet to take the time to find out.

The same thing seems to happen with software purchased. You use what you’re familiar with and need, not really looking to see what else might be beneficial to your work. At least that’s what Accede Mold and Tool experienced in this week’s Throwback Thursday feature. The Rochester, New York-based mold shop’s programmers were so busy working to create toolpaths with the usual features they used from their Mastercam software that they didn’t know using its Dynamic Motion technology could significantly speed roughing cycle times. I won’t give away the whole story, but suffice it to say, they eventually did discover this “diamond in the roughing” and were glad they did.
