When was the last time you saw an injection molding machine in a movie? Well, you can catch a glimpse in "Joy" starring Jennifer Lawrence because the production crew had to reproduce an injection molding facility for the film's plot and turned to Absolute Machinery to get the job done.

The movie centers around the story of Joy Mangano, the American inventor of the Miracle Mop played by Jennifer Lawerence, who launches a business dynasty.  To help create the movie set, the Absolute team provided transportation and rigging to recreate a working injection molding operation, including everything from machines and auxiliaries to office equipment and shelving. They also had two employees, Technician Joe Hopper and Technical Manager Stuart McCarthy, on set as extras.

Absolute Machinery’s Nathan Smith sums up the challenge of this movie adventure, “We learned that when film crews need set pieces, they need them quickly. We were able to provide 20th Century Fox with five molding machines, two of which were horizontal and three vertical, in just a few days. We loaded up trucks full of used auxiliary equipment including mold temperature controllers, molds, material and typical manufacturing ancillaries from our stock and headed over to Wilmington, Massachusetts, where the shoot was taking place. Although we weren’t sure if they would be seen making parts, we had to make sure the used equipment was able to run in order to give the director the option to do so.”
