It’s Fun to Watch Them Grow

Hearing how readers are doing never gets old, especially when the news is growth. That’s what’s been happening for Mooresville, North Carolina-based Ameritech Die & Mold for a few years now. Not only has the company diversified into three divisions, it is expanding its southern-most facility.

Ameritech President (and MMT EAB member) Steve Rotman told me this news is just the effect of the company's continuing growth pattern.  After committing to diversifcation by establishing three divisions (molds, military & aerospace and automation), the Ameritech South division in Ormond Beach, Florida, is expanding its facilities and moving in equipment, as we speak. This includes a transfer of old equipment and upgrades to its electrode manufacturing machine and sinker EDM, plus an Erowa robot in between the two new machines. 

The building design was copied from the Mooresville division location, which they've occupied since 1988.  That layout allowed them to increase the original 15,600 square feet to 55,000 square feet. The current plan for the Florida facility is to eventually grow from 18,000 square feet to 33,000 square feet when they are ready. Currently 12 employees work at this site, but this new building will allow them to build up their workforce. The grand opening is set for next month after they get everything moved, hooked up and checked out!

Rotman says the hardest lesson learned during this expansion has been the expense of meeting all the regulatory mandates and fees. The most exciting aspect of this journery, according to Rotman, has been 12 years this coming April, when they purchased Pinnacle Mold and began Ameritech Die & Mold South.  "This was something that we dreamed about for a long time, and now it will open the door for a lot more diversification, as well as efficiency for the company," says Rotman.
