The NXV1680A vertical machining center from YCM offers extended travels and high rigidity to meet the diverse machining requirements of job shops. Models are available with 12,000- or 15,000-rpm, 40-hp spindles that include a tool unclamping cushion to protect them and extend spindle bearing life. The spindles also feature ceramic bearings with low inertia mass, low centrifugal force and high rigidity for a low coefficient of thermal deformation; and high precision helical springs for high dynamic balance and low vibration.

Roller guideways are standard on all the three axes, with six slider blocks on the X axis, four guideways on the Y axis and a dual-driven Z axis with a zero counterweight design. Finite element analysis also is used to ensure the best mass arrangement and rib construction for constant stability under intensive heavy-duty cutting.

The VMC is available with a 24- or 30-tool automatic tool changer equipped with an absolute encoder for increased stability and speed. The inverter-controlled system also prevents tool-change-speed variances under different power supply frequencies. Other features include a five-auger chip evacuation system with four augers along the Y axis and one along the X axis for efficient chip removal.
