The Yama Seiki Awea BM-2500 vertical machining center offers fast acceleration and deceleration times, with axis rapids of 590 ipm on the X and Y axes, and 472 ipm on the Z axis. All axes are driven by FANUC AC servomotors.

Features include box ways on all axes; a 6,000-rpm, 50-taper gear spindle; spindle oil chiller; chip conveyor; enclosed splash guard; oil skimmer; and more. The automatic, swing-arm-type toolchanger can store 30 tools, and a 40-60-tool swing-arm type also is available. Tool change time is 3 sec. tool to tool and 7 sec. chip to chip. The VMC’s spindle is powered by a Fanuc α22i, 35-hp AC spindle motor. The two-speed gearhead delivers 662 Nm at 375 rpm for low-speed, heavy-duty cutting. The geared head provides a more powerful method of transmitting power for heavy machining, the company says.
