Walter offers a series of inserts for its Xtra-tec point drills that offer precision ground geometry, self-centering point geometry and stabilizing margins particularly well-suited for heat exchanger manufacturing. These features produce high surface quality, close bore tolerances and precise cylindrical bores, the company says. Secure insert clamping also is designed to limit vibration and boost process reliability.

Two types of inserts are available in a variety of sizes: the P6001, which is universal in grades WXP45 and WPP45C0, and the P6003, a specialist in grade WMP35. The inserts can handle a variety of applications, including drilling through and blind holes, drilling precision holes with tolerances up to H8, stack drilling, drilling holes close to contour, and tap-drilling holes. In addition to heat exchanger drilling, the inserts also can be used in the automotive, aerospace, and mold and die industries, as well as in general metalworking.
