Fadal Machining Centers’ (Chatsworth, CA) Moldmaking VMC 4020 features a GE Fanuc Series18i MB5 controller, box way construction, COOL PowerTM refrigerated cooling system and standard 10,000 rpm spindle with automatic Hi Lo to enable hogging and finishing of large molds—eliminating the need for dedicated hogging or finishing machine tools. The VMC’s box way construction improves cutting tool life with improved vibration damping. This allows a large mold to be cut with the same tool throughout a lengthy machining operation, improving geometry and surface finish. Additionally, excellent vibration damping properties inherent in ground and hardened cast-iron box ways allow extended machine life and higher horsepower cuts. Box ways on the Z-axis column minimize side deflection inherent in low-cost large machine tools using linear guides. Box way construction delivers an optimum solution for applications that require high accuracy while machining difficult materials and maintaining tight tolerances.
