The development of VDP—vibration-damped palletization—is an example of advanced development which setting new standards in metal-cutting machining. The typical machining system is a closed circle wherein the elastic structure broadly consists of three components—a machine tool, a cutting tool and a workpiece clamping system—which together dictate the system’s stability. The quality of the manufactured product and the capability of the machining process depend largely on the dynamic stability of every component in this structure. Ever more stringent demands on metal-cutting machining—new materials, better surface finish and closer tolerances—have made the vibration problem more and more urgent. System 3R saw an opportunity to improve the entire machining process by improving their pallet system’s dynamic properties. These vibration-damping pallet systems are effective over a broad range of frequencies. Just as effective in conventional milling as in high-speed milling. During machining, the parameters change all the time as a function of the type and size of the workpiece, the material, the cutting data—and not least—the way the mass of the workpiece changes as material is removed.
