The Haas Automation, Inc. (Oxnard, CA) TM-3P toolroom mill for production machining and the EC-630 line of high-productivity HMCs can be seen at Westec. The TM-3P features faster speeds, an automatic toolchanger and a full enclosure. The unit’s TM-3P’s reliable 7.5-hp vector drive spindle spins to 6,000 rpm and uses standard 40-taper tools. Rapids and cutting feedrates are 400 ipm, double that of the non-enclosed TM-3. The machine’s 40" x 20" x 16" travels and a 57.75" x 14.5" T-slot table provide plenty of room for workholding and larger parts, and a 10-pocket tool changer is standard. The TM-3P operates on either single- or three-phase power, and a one-piece cast-iron base/column damps vibration and provides rigidity – ensuring a high level of precision and repeatability. The EC-630 HMC is a large-production, high-capacity machine that features a 40" x 33" x 35" work envelope, 50-taper geared-head spindle, dual pallet changer with 630 mm pallets, 50-pocket side-mount tool changer and a built-in, 1-degree pallet indexer (a full 4th axis is available). The unit’s geared head couples the motor directly to the spindle through a Haas-built, high-precision gearbox. This smooth-running system is very efficient, and offers tremendous thermal stability. The two-speed gearbox provides 450 ft-lb of torque for heavy material removal, and speeds to 6,000 rpm for finish cuts. Each of the machine’s 630 mm pallets handles a 2640 lb load, and the servo-driven pallet-changer swaps pallets quickly. A separate, protected load station allows the operator to safely load and unload parts or change fixtures on one pallet, while parts are being machined on the other—keeping spindle run-time at a maximum. The machine’s enclosure accommodates parts up to 39.4" in both diameter and height.
