System Provides 3D Inspection, Reverse Engineering

Verisurf Software’s portable Master3DGage hardware/software combination is designed for automated “in-process” inspection directly on the shop floor, enabling machine shops to increase production and improve part quality.

The system integrates the latest Hexagon Metrology portable CMM with Verisurf X 3D-model-based inspection and reverse engineering software. The 3D inspection solution verifies manufactured parts directly to 3D CAD models or 2D drawings. When no data or drawings are available, the system serves as a reverse engineering solution.

Master3DGage’s three-step inspection process aligns manufactured part to the 3D CAD model, inspects the part in real time and then reports the inspection results in industry standard formats with intelligent GD&T and color deviation maps.

In the three-step reverse engineering process, the system measures complex 3D profile surfaces or prismatic features by contact scan or probe, or captures 2D features. Point cloud and STL mesh editing tools help prepare large data sets for 3D mesh surfacing. Finally, 3D point clouds and meshes are transformed into 3D NURB surfaces or sold models.
