Sumitomo will introduce the solid carbide GS drill series, which features an advanced carbide substrate and highly wear resistant DEX coating. The drill series allows for increased feed rates and running speeds. The DEX coating has alternately stacked AlCr and SiNi coating layers that not only provide high heat resistance, but also exceptional chipping resistance, the company states. Another feature of the GS drill is wider flutes to accommodate for excellent chip evacuation when machining steels, stainless steels, cast irons and super alloys. Also with its newly configured point geometry, the GS drill reduces cutting forces promoting stable drilling.
The GS drill series is available in external coolant and coolant-through styles. External coolant drills are available in 2XD and 4XD lengths, while the coolant-through drills are offered in 3XD, 5XD and 8XD lengths. Sumitomo also offers 12XD and 20XD solid carbide drills for deep holes or parts with clearance issues.
Developed using a patented microwave sintering process, the SN2000K and SN2100K excel in machining a broad range of cast iron materials. These ceramic grades exhibit the ideal amount of wear resistance and toughness to produce elite grades for cast iron turning and milling.
The new SN2000K grade is excellent for high speed general turning and finishing applications in cast iron. This grade promotes long tool life and exceptional wear resistance through its hardness and increased toughness.
With its high shock and impact resistance, the SN2100K is perfect for rough turning and milling of gray cast iron applications. The SN2100K is ideal when extraordinary toughness is required.
Sumitomo will be at IMTS 2012 in Booth W-2422.
