Sandvik Coromant has introduced CoroCut QD, a parting-off system for deep grooves and long overhangs that is supported with plug-and-play adaptors for easy handling and efficient coolant supply. It is said to be particularly suited for volume bar-fed parts manufacturing, offering more efficient material usage to control overall costs and support increased bar-feed capacity.

The system builds on the company’s Q-Cut and CoroCut ranges, adding a flexible, easy-to-use tooling range. It combines strong tools and inserts with rigid clamping and efficient coolant supply to meet the chip control and tool life needs of bar feed manufacturers.

Tool attachment is achieved via a user-friendly clamping mechanism. The tool tip seat is tilted 20 degrees and incorporates a backstop to withstand high cutting forces. For insert widths 0.078" (2 mm) and wider, the insert interface has a rail to increase stability. The inserts themselves feature a PVD coating that offers improved adhesion, edge-line qualities and ER tolerance.

Good chip control is achieved by combining over and under coolant on all tools, which keeps the temperature down at the cutting edge for less tool wear and a more stable performance, while at the same time providing for efficient chip evacuation.
