WALTER (Waukesha, WI) has added the F4080 octagon cutter to its Xtra-tec portfolio. The tool—with octagonal inserts and a setting angle of kappa = 43 degrees—is available in both coarse and close pitch. It features just one insert size for all tool diameters 2 inches to 6 inches (50 to 170 mm) and, like other Xtra-tec tools, adapts to individual requirements. Insert grades for cast iron, steel and aluminum are available—including the new PVD-Tiger-tec cutting tool materials WSP45 and WSM35 for high-alloyed stainless steels and difficult to cut workpiece materials. Cutting inserts in five geometries from “strong” (unfavorable cutting condition) to “sharp” (aluminum materials) are available for optimal performance. Additionally, precision-sintered and high-precision circumference-ground insert versions can be used. A special feature of the cutter is the nickel-plated and constructively balanced tool body, which reduces the vibration on the machine spindle and works effectively in high-speed aluminum machining. The cutter is suitable for all machining operations, such as face milling, circular interpolation, ramping and pocketing.
