WALTER USA, Inc. will be exhibiting its modular ScrewFit adaptor for boring and precision boring heads, which is a stable, precise modular interface for milling operations at IMTS. Due to the compact dimensions of this adaptor, tools can be supplied from a machining diameter of just 0.079 in, up to 2.75 in. The relevant adaptors feature a cutting edge orientation coordinated for precision boring in order to avoid withdrawal marks. The slimline dimensions also help increase the machining depth, with depths of 5-6 x D. The tools come in a dual-flute version for boring and a single-flute version with precision adjustment for precision boring in the micron range. From a machining diameter of 1.30 in, the precision boring heads feature an automatic imbalance, which is self-balancing. Automatic imbalance compensation eliminates the need for a separate work process on the balancing machine, and ScrewFit tools are mounted using a simple open-jawed spanner. Using ScrewFit also adaptors reduces the tool projection by around 30 percent. Another particularly important characteristic is the maximum cutting speed. For self-balancing precision boring tools, this is around 6500 ft/min.
