Marshalloy MQ/FM pre-hardened alloy steel from Diehl Steel is a mold-quality, free-machining, premium P-20 steel produced through a propriety melting and refining process. It is suitable for plastic injection mold applications, as well as short-run tools and dies, offering high cleanliness, polishability, machinability, uniformity and hardenability, the company says.

According to Diehl, the steel can be polished to a high finish, and it is rigorously tested to ensure uniformity of structure and low inclusion levels.  It is decarb-free and stress-relieved, making it well-suited for EDM processes, as well. Pre-hardened to 262/321 BHN, Marshalloy MQ/FM’s balanced composition ensures uniform cross-sectional hardness and maintains the specified hardness throughout the plate, the company says. Minimum variation within any plate is 30 BHN.
