The 4mm indexable mold dating insert (MDI) from D-M-E (Madison Heights, MI) brings proven reliability and ease of use to production dating of hard-to-fit parts like cell phone cases and medical components. Ideal for tiny parts or ones with little suitable surface area, the 4 mm MDI miniaturizes the company’s patented insert design, which provides the industry’s only snap-in-place indexing. This MDI also is front-removable, allowing fast and easy changes of the inner year arrow from the front of the mold without removing the outer month wheel. The insert consists of an outer ring numbered 1-12 that press-fits into the mold. A front-removable inner insert with slotted indicator arrow requires only a screwdriver to quickly modify the date or change inserts in maximizing machine up-time. The inner insert is engineered to allow three complete CCW adjustment revolutions while remaining flush with the outer ring. Positive–stop "snap in place" design ensures the inner insert remains fixed in the proper indexed position throughout production runs. Outer ring numeral depth is 0.2mm. The inner insert arrow is 0.4mm and serves as the screwdriver slot. For application flexibility, outer ring and inner inserts can be ordered separately or as complete assemblies. The long-lived inserts are machined from rugged 55Rc stainless steel for maximum corrosion and wear resistance, and can withstand temperatures to 150°C (300°F). The inserts are available in diameters of 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16 and 20mm, allowing molders to standardize on the quick-change, long-lasting, reliable units.
