Micro-Molding Machine Reduces Clamp Tonnage

Plustech Inc., the North American Branch of Sodick’s IMM Division, has added the GL30-LP micro-molding machine to its lineup of horizontal injection molding machines. Offering high repeatability and accurate plasticization, the machine is designed to provide advanced injection for micro features with extremely tight tolerances.

The 30-ton machine includes Sodick’s V-Line two-stage plunger system, which separates the plasticization and injection processes for consistent measurement and injection of the melt stream. It incorporates a true hybrid clamping mechanism utilizing an upgraded servo-motor-controlled hydraulic pumping system.

With a high-rigidity clamp that ensures that clamping force is applied uniformly, the machine is said to be able to reduce clamp tonnage to 5 percent, dialing it down to 1.5 tons without losing accuracy.  Injection response time is 2-3 ms, maximum injection velocity is 1,300 mm/sec. (51.1"/sec.), and maximum injection pressure is 288 MPa (41,730 psi).
