(Newton, KS) provide high-sensitivity all-metal separation that can protect hot runner systems as well as other plastics processing equipment from damaging metal debris and hard-to-remove metal fines. Metal contaminants pose a special hazard to hot runner systems: tramp metal and fines can clog and scar molding machines, as well as finely sculpted hot runner manifolds, nozzles and mold gates. This detector’s circuitry incorporates a transmitter/receiver sensing system that can detect fines as small as 0.4 mm in diameter. The detector’s fast-acting, air-operated diverter mechanism automatically rejects the metal debris. The detector offers consistent performance with virgin resins, regrind and recycled material—sensing and removing both ferrous and nonferrous metal contaminants, including tramp iron, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, bronze, tin and copper. The detector also features automatic product-effect compensation to eliminate erroneous rejection of good material. Additives, excess moisture, and fillers like graphite and metallic oxides can create false product-effect signals and cause many conventional oscillator-based metal detectors to reject good product. To avoid this waste, operators often set detector sensitivity significantly below optimum values. But this detector allows operators to run at maximum sensitivity with minimum good product loss—automatically.
