Designed for simultaneous five-axis contouring of a range of complex parts, Doosan’s FM 200/5AX Linear five-axis machining center is built on a rigid bridge-type base composed of a highly stable mineral composite material. According to the company, mineral castings absorb vibration at a higher rate than iron castings and are much more thermally stable, resulting in improved part surface finishes and increased tool life.

Offering rapid traverse rates of 1,968.5 ipm and a cutting feed rate of 787 ipm, the machine’s X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measure 7.9" × 13.4" × 11.8".  These axes are driven by high-precision linear motors that provide high accelerating and decelerating feed rates with little to no backlash. The fourth- and fifth-axis rotary tables are equipped with direct drive motors to deliver matching levels of performance. Platten size is 7.9" in diameter with a capacity load of 33.1 lbs.

The 19-hp spindle features an HSK E40 taper and achieves speeds of 45,000 rpm for minimized vibration and maximized stability. For added productivity, the machine uses a direct-drive, servo-driven, 24-tool automatic toolchanger capable of holding tools as large as 2" in diameter and as long as 7.1", and weighing as much as 2.2 lbs.
