Husky’s High Performance Package (HPP) is a group of refinements designed to reduce cycle times as well as reduce the cost of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packaging, making it more competitive with glass, metal and carton alternatives, and enabling the expansion of PET into new market segments.

The HyPET HPP5 features a Polaris human-machine interface (HMI) with a 19-inch (482.6-mm) full-color LCD display and an intuitive, part/process-centric interface. Auxiliaries such as a mold dehumidification unit, blower, dryer, chiller, vacuum loader, conveyor and additive closer can be monitored and controlled directly from the interface. Operating software and menu screens have been improved to simplify startup, and logic has been added to act on auxiliary feedback and alarms during operation.

The company’s intelligent Mold ID system is designed to further simplify startup and improve ease of use. It integrates the machine, cold half, hot runner and post-mold cooling for optimized system parameters like tonnage and cycle.

The system also includes a redesigned CoolPik dehumidification unit that uses a condenser for combined cooling and dehumidification, rather than a desiccant wheel for dehumidification and air-to-water heat exchanger for cooling. The unit’s refrigerant-based cooling offers energy savings between 20 and 25 percent, the company says.

The Quick Mold Change feature also significantly reduces change-over time, primarily due to a redesigned split gate that eliminates the need to cool the hot runner during change-over, hydraulic wedge clamps that reduce clamp/unclamp time and an automated purge feature that uses forced air to quickly purge and drain cooling circuits in the cold half.
