Hot-Runner Nozzles Boast More Uniform Heating

A new hot-runner heater technology suited to engineering resins is said to provide superior gate-temperature control and eliminate resin degradation in the nozzle body. The new Hot Slot heating element from Gunther Hot Runner Systems Inc., Buffalo Grove, Ill., has been incorporated into the company’s Gatekeeper nozzles. The Hot Slot consists of a mineral-insulated cable heater pressed into a milled slot in a brass bar sleeve. This construction ensures that the heating element is in the same location in relation to the gate every time, eliminating the chance of temperature variance from nozzle to nozzle, Gunther says. Use of the brass sleeve instead of casting the heater into brass also reportedly prevents voids and ensures more uniform heating.
