WALTER’s (Waukesha, WI) modular grooving system NOVEX CUT product line has been extended to allow for a comprehensive tooling system which is capable of supplying the optimum solution for every conceivable grooving requirement. The system provides users with a high degree of flexibility and consequently, cost savings. The tools are comprised of a toolholder, wear-resistant nickel-plated grooving module to accommodate the grooving insert and the insert itself. Toolholders are optionally available with shank or Capto adaptors. Straight and angled versions as well as shapes for inside and outside machining also are available. No matter whether users wish to work with a one-edged FX or two-edged GX grooving insert, the toolholder does not change. All that is exchanged in the grooving module. For most applications, the low-cost GX series two-edged grooving inserts are sufficient. These are available in sizes (insert lengths) 09, 16 and 24, with grooving widths ranging from 0.0787 in to 0.315 in. The maximum possible grooving depth using the size 24 insert is 0.827 in. A special series is available for producing circlip grooves which already starts at a grooving width of 0.0236 in. And for applications requiring that extra depth, users can resort to the one-edged FX grooving insert series—permitting grooving depths of up to 3.15 in.
