Brush Wellman, Inc. (Cleveland, OH) will promote its family of MoldMAX® mold alloys at the MoldMaking Expo. MoldMAX is a high strength, high conductivity mold and tooling copper-based alloy for the plastics market. Recently made commercially available is the newest addition to the MoldMAX family, MoldMAX V®, a copper nickel silicon chrome alloy, which will have characteristics similar to that of MoldMAX LH. MoldMAX V has a hardness of 30 HRC and thermal conductivity approximately four to five times greater than P20 tool steel. MoldMAX V rounds out the MoldMAX family of mold and tooling alloys. The MoldMAX offering consists of copper beryllium alloys as well as non-beryllium containing copper alloys all of which provide high hardness and excellent conductivity, but fulfill different needs for the company’s various injection and blow molding customers. MoldMAX V enhances their non-beryllium alloy offering and offers improved conductivity over the highly successful MoldMAX XL. However, MoldMAX XL will continue to be the premier mold material for superior machining capabilities and high conductivity in large size plates.
