Five Axis Machining

Autodesk Inventor users wishing to incorporate leading-edge multi-axis CAM software in the familiar Autodesk Inventor environment can now do so with the availability of hyperMILL V9 from Open Mind Technologies (Wellesley Hills, MA) in the Autodesk Inventor Series from Autodesk Inc. (San Rafael, CA). Software advantages include a uniform data model that can be used throughout the entire product-creation process, from design through programming and including simulation.

Both the CAD and the CAM systems access the same database, making it possible to do design work and machining calculations in parallel. Also, the “look and feel” of the CAM product fits the CAD interface, so users of Autodesk Mechanical Desktop and Autodesk Inventor continue to operate within a familiar working environment. Because the software’s interface is identical, switching from Autodesk Mechanical Desktop to Autodesk Inventor is no problem at all. Once the job list and macros have been created, both systems can use the tool databases, simulations and postprocessors. Additionally, feature recognition takes place across the entire model—identifying not only holes, but also other geometries including pockets, plane levels and much more.
