Hommer Tool & Manufacturing, Inc. (Arlington Heights, IL) has announced that its collapsible core technology functions “flash-free”, prompting the company to trademark its product as Flash-free™ collapsible cores. Flash occurs when the plastic leaks into gaps in the mold. Tests were conducted under actual production conditions at several customer plants. Nylon material run at 1800 psi in a mold was non-flashing. Testing at higher pressures was not possible due to failure in another area of the mold. Polypropylene ran comfortably at 1200/1400 psi. In every instance, the flash-free collapsible cores performed flawlessly. The components’ inner core pins are made of M2 material for reduced wear. Applications include medical, dental, pharmaceutical, consumer, and industrial applications.
