Autodesk has added cloud-based product data management (Cloud PDM) to its Fusion Lifecycle product lifecycle management (PLM) solution, creating a unified, concept-to-market product innovation platform. According to the company, this solution was designed to provide product developers with a consistent set of software tools that would eliminate the need to “bounce around” from one app to another or one platform to another, migrating data along the way.

At the heart of the software platform is Fusion 360, which combines CAD, CAM and CAE in the cloud. Earlier this year, the company had bolstered its Fusion platform with Fusion Lifecycle for PLM and Fusion Connect for Internet of Things data management.

Cloud PDM enables engineers to collaborate on designs and manage their work-in-process CAD data and documents. They can effectively track versions and releases, and connect to manufacturing workflows for more effective sharing of design data across the enterprise, the company says. It also enables real-time design reviews, viewing and markup of 3D files, and connecting key processes for managing bills of materials and engineering change orders.
